Petter Solberg Completes First Tests in Ford Fiesta RS WRC [Video]


Former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg is wasting no time getting behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC as he prepares for the 2012 season.

The Norwegian rally driver got his first taste of the Blue Oval's Fiesta RS WRC this week when he completed close to 200 miles (320 kilometers) of driving in the French Alps.

Ford Extends its Participation in the WRC until 2013


Ford's European division announced on Thursday that it is extending its participating in the FIA World Rally Championship into 2012 and 2013. Ford’s WRC program will continue to be operated by UK-based M-Sport.

The team will be named Ford World Rally Team and will retain support from Castrol for the next two years. Ford’s “weapon” of choice will be the Fiesta RS WRC, which made its debut this year and claimed the first three places in the first and the last races of the season.

Santa Claus Takes a Ride on the Wild Side in a Ford Fiesta S2000 WRC [Video]


They say Christmas is a time for giving, and Ford's European division did exactly that by inviting Joulupukki over from his home in Lapland to Hungary to take part in in a number of charity events over the coming days.

For those of you wondering, Joulupukki is not the Finnish version of Jalopnik but as we learned from the all-knowing Wikipedia, Finland's version of Santa Claus with the name literally meaning "Yule Goat" or "Christmas Goat".

Ford Calls Rally Fans to Vote on Their Favorite Roof Livery for the Fiesta WRC


The Blue Oval’s rally team is reaching out to its fans through Facebook and asking them to choose a unique roof artwork the Fiesta RS WRCs driven by Jari-Matti Latvala, Mikko Hirvonen and Khalid Al Qassimi at next month’s Rally Finland, which runs from July 28-30, 2011.

“Up until now the Ford Abu Dhabi Team Fiesta RS WRCs have simply featured the Ford logo,” said Will May, Motorsport Marketing Manager for Ford of Europe. “So we’re inviting our Facebook followers to vote for one of several designs we’ve developed under one theme – which is ‘the food that fuels you’."

Ford’s Smallest Production Engine Ever: The New 1.0-liter EcoBoost Three-Cylinder Gasoline Unit


It took the Ford Motor Company a very long time to jump aboard the turbocharged engine bandwagon for mainstream, non-sport models, but now the Detroit automaker is going full speed ahead with the presentation of a full range of force-fed gasoline powerplants. Ford latest offering is a new 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, the company’s first three-cylinder unit and its smallest production engine ever.

Designed by the engineering team at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre in the U.K., the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine promises to deliver performance of a larger four-cylinder unit with even higher fuel economy. It employs all EcoBoost technologies, such as turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT).

Ford Hires Santos, a Virtual Soldier Turned Into Worker


After GM announced its R2 space robot, how long could it be before the Blue Oval had something futuristic to show off? Ford recently introduced Santos, a new virtual-reality stress-testing digital man.

Santos, derived from the Department of Defense's Virtual Soldier Research program, is Ford's next stage of virtual work assistance. He works in a simulated Ford factory and measures the effects of real-world stress by combining a "complete biomechanical muscular system" with "predictive dynamics".

New Ford Fiesta Rated at 40mpg Highway and 29mpg City, See How it Compares with its Rivals


The official EPA (that's short for Environmental Protection Agency) numbers for Ford's highly anticipated new Fiesta are in.

According to the agency's calculations, the 2011 Fiesta with Ford's new six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission achieves an EPA certified 40mpg highway and 29mpg city (equal to 5.9lt and 8.1 lt/100km respectively).

The five-speed manual transmission model is EPA rated at 37 mpg highway and and 29 mpg city.
