Aside from having an army of cars featured in the film, the Detroit automaker is also launching yet another limited edition Camaro model based on the Autobot “Bumblebee” character.
The 2012 Camaro Transformers Special Edition will be offered as a $3,000 package on 2LT and 2SS Camaro Coupes with Rally Yellow paint. Along with the content provided in the RS package, the Transformers edition adds bespoke black rally stripes that cover the hood, roof, decklid and the unique rear spoiler.

The General’s say (or is that pay?) is so strong in the movie industry that the Detroit company was able to convince the makers of the Transformers franchise to have a 2011 Chevy Camaro play the role of Bumblebee instead of the original VW Beetle.

It sure doesn't look like "the force is strong with this one" nowadays, but at some point, the 1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 pictured above was owned by none other than David Prowse, the man behind the mask and under the suit of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. We know Darth Vader might find our lack of faith disturbing, but we always imagined his ride somewhat more sinister... If by any chance you're interested, the car is up for grabs on eBay UK with a starting bid of £650.
The retro-style muscle car will be available in the UK exclusively with the 6.2-litre V8 powerplant that produces 426bhp propelling the coupe from zero to 60mph in under 5.0 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. General Motors did not mention in the press release if the Camaro will be offered in right-hand or left-hand drive in the UK.
For now, there's not much to say about the Convertible other than it gets a cloth top - most likely electrically operated, and the same re-rated for the 2011MY 312HP 3.6-liter V6 and 426HP 6.2-liter V8 engine options as the coupe variant.
The General's reaction? Early this morning, the Detroit automaker came out with a press release stating that from May 2009 (the 2010 Camaro's first full month of sales) to May 2010, Chevy's pony car posted 99,872 total sales, outselling the Ford Mustang by nearly 20,000 vehicles (80,340 units total).
The company added that the Camaro has led the pony car sales race for 11 of the last 12 months.
