Walter de' Silva Confirms Audi's BMW X6 Rivaling Q6 Crossover, Says Smaller Q4 May Follow

If the saying about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery is true, then the BMW Group should feel extremely flattered by the fact that both Audi and Mercedes-Benz are planning to introduce a direct rival to its X6 SAV (BMW's acronym for Sports Activity Vehicle).

And while we not only knew about Audi's plan to develop a BMW X6 rival, but we also scooped an early test mule model out in the open, the VW Group's head of design came out and officially confirmed the news in a short interview with Autonews Europe on the sidelines of the Bologna Motor Show.

The cars featured in the video are a modified Audi S5 and a BMW 3-Series [E92]. While we can't say that we're too enthusiastic about the editing of the video which was allegedly shot at the Stelvio Pass in Italy, the clip is worth a few minutes of your time. You can check it out after the break.

The more practical, five-door version of the A1 has the same length as the three door model at 3.95 meters (12.96 ft) but is several millimeters taller and wider thus offering a little more space in the rear seats – though don't expect any wonders.. New Audi A6 Ties with Infiniti M37 in Consumer Reports’ Premium Sedan Test, Saab 9-5 Flunks

Up until now, Consumer Reports' [CR] number one choice in the mid-size luxury sedan segment was the Infiniti M37. Not anymore as after evaluating the redesigned 2012 Audi A6, the M37 has to share the top spot with Ingolstadt's premium saloon.

The new Audi A6 received an “Excellent” rating with an overall score of 93 points. This is a huge improvement over the previous model's 79 points.

“The redesigned Audi A6 is an impressive car and a joy to drive”, said senior director of CR’s Auto Test Center. Now It's Official: Audi Gives Birth to Five-Door A1 Sportback [66 Photos and Video]

After an unplanned leak earlier today, Audi finally got around to releasing official data along with more than sixty pictures and the first video of the A1 Sportback, which is more practical, five-door version of the German firm's premium supermini.

The connection with its three-door sibling can be seen in the styling, though Audi's designers did manage to add 6mm in both width and height to improve interior space. The five-door model's length (3.95mm) and wheelbase of 2.47m are identical to the three-door version.

The A1 Sportback comes standard with four seats, but Audi does offer a fifth seat on request at no extra charge. According to the German company, headroom and shoulder room have each been increased by around one centimeter (0.39 in) over the three-door model.

First Official Photos of New Audi A1 Sportback 5-Door Hatchback

It was only a matter of time before Audi began expanding the range of its A1 premium supermini starting with a more practical five-door model - let's not forget that the German carmaker had teased the five-door body style with the 2008 Paris Motor Show A1 Sportback Concept.

And now we can show it to you in production form for the very first time thanks to an unceremonious online unveiling, courtesy of Russian website Cars.ru.

According to the author of the article, the exterior dimensions of the Sportback remain almost the same compared to the three-door model at 3.95m long, 1.42m tall and 1.75m wide with a wheelbase of 2.47m.

The exterior styling is what you would expect it to be: an A1 with five doors – nothing special here other than that the Sportback will be available with contrasting roof colors. The same goes for the interior, the only difference being that it is now easier to access the rear seats.
